This time it was Youth for Climate who helped the Uyghur cause. With their movement to label products sold by brands that profit from Uyghur forced labour, they have raised awareness among consumers as to the implications of their purchases. If brands don’t take responsibility themselves, and governments don’t do anything to ban forced labour products, it is up to consumers to make fairer choices.
Zara is one of the brands that have denied all accusations of forced labour and are now being sued by IODE, Sherpa, the Collectif Ethique sur l’étiquette and a survivor of the camps for profiting from crimes against humanity.
